Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with expertise in Scala and distributed systems for a contract position focused on building data integrity and provenance infrastructure for government and law enforcement. In this hands-on role, the engineer will lead the technical design and delivery of complex data pipelines, engaging directly with operational users and partner engineers to create reliable and traceable data environments. The role is fully remote with occasional onsite work and requires current, portable NPPV3 clearance.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical design and delivery of data-pipeline and provenance engagements.
- Build ingestion, transformation, and lineage across distributed systems, both streaming and batch.
- Define integration interfaces with existing partner pipelines and maintain clean joins.
- Engage with operational users to understand workflows and constraints.
- Set engineering standards and mentor a small delivery team.
- Review code and ensure adherence to engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Current, portable NPPV3 clearance is essential.
- Strong proficiency in Scala and JVM with a sound understanding of typed and functional design.
- Experience in building and reasoning about concurrent, fault-tolerant distributed systems.
- Proficiency in data pipelines including ingestion, transformation, lineage, and both streaming and batch processing.
- Solid fluency in API and structured data formats such as REST/gRPC and JSON/Avro/Protobuf.
- Strong CI/CD and testing discipline is crucial for high-assurance work.
- Self-directed with the ability to solve ambiguous problems independently.
- Familiarity with government, policing, or law enforcement data is desirable.
