Overview
The Senior Android Developer will be part of the mobile platform team, focusing on enhancing a UK government app by developing and maintaining its core components. Working primarily remotely, the contractor will collaborate closely with other teams to integrate key features, ensuring a secure and high-quality user experience. The role requires applying secure coding practices and maintaining app quality through automated testing, peer reviews, and adherence to Play Store guidelines.
Responsibilities
- Build and enhance common parts of the Android app using Kotlin.
- Lead technical design for new features and integrations.
- Apply secure coding practices based on OWASP MASVS standards.
- Write and maintain automated tests as part of the CI/CD pipeline.
- Conduct code reviews and participate in pair programming to ensure high code quality.
- Ensure releases comply with Play Store submission guidelines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues for live app releases.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience in native Android development with Kotlin.
- Proven experience in shipping apps to the Play Store and knowledge of Android UI guidelines.
- Understanding of common mobile security risks and proficiency in OWASP MASVS.
- Experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD) and continuous integration practices.
- Familiarity with version control workflows and code review processes.
- Comfortable mentoring and guiding less experienced engineers.
- Eligibility for SC clearance, ideally with existing clearance; UK residency for the past 5 years required.
