Overview
The Senior Design Engineer will play a pivotal role in delivering major infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects within the UK water sector, focusing specifically on water and wastewater schemes. Working alongside Principal Engineers and multidisciplinary teams, this position emphasizes the design and implementation of civil engineering solutions, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements. The role also involves mentorship of junior engineers and fostering innovation in engineering practices.
Responsibilities
- Deliver civil engineering designs for water and wastewater projects in compliance with project requirements.
- Produce and review design calculations, technical reports, specifications, and drawings.
- Support multidisciplinary design activities and ensure effective integration across engineering disciplines.
- Ensure design outputs comply with relevant legislation, British Standards, and quality procedures.
- Provide technical support to procurement, construction, commissioning, and site teams.
- Contribute to engineering governance, maintaining quality and compliance across deliverables.
- Identify opportunities for innovation and continuous improvement.
- Attend design reviews, client meetings, progress meetings, and site visits as required.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in the municipal water and wastewater sector working with water utility clients.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater assets and related civil structures.
- Experience within quality assurance and health and safety management systems.
- Ability to produce and review engineering calculations and design documentation.
- Experience leading or attending design reviews and site meetings.
- Understanding of design planning, programme management, and resource estimation.
