Overview
The Senior Network Engineer will engage in a 3-month contract focused on enhancing customer experience by diagnosing connectivity issues within our platform and developing a proof of concept using Amazon MSK. This remote role requires strong collaboration with customers and internal teams to ensure the integrity and performance of network connectivity. The ideal candidate will leverage their advanced network engineering skills and DevOps practices to achieve measurable improvements.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose connectivity and performance issues end to end for customers, working with their IT and telephony providers.
- Utilize tools like Wireshark and tcpdump for packet-level diagnostics and issue resolution.
- Analyze routing, DNS, load balancing, and VPN behaviors to optimize traffic to the cloud platform.
- Develop a proof of concept for Amazon MSK, addressing setup, security, and connectivity.
- Document diagnostic methods and findings to facilitate knowledge transfer post-contract.
- Collaborate with application, platform, and security teams to improve architectural decisions based on findings.
- Present technical recommendations and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Senior Network or Network Reliability Engineer with strong packet-level troubleshooting capabilities.
- Deep understanding of TCP/IP fundamentals and the OSI model, with quick issue isolation abilities.
- Hands-on experience with routing protocols (including BGP), DNS, load balancers, VPNs, and CDN functionality.
- Familiarity with diagnosing issues across various networks, including customer offices and ISPs.
- Practical experience with Amazon MSK and Apache Kafka, particularly in cluster design and implementation.
- Solid knowledge of AWS networking (e.g., VPCs, Transit Gateway) and exposure to Azure networking.
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code practices using Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools.
- Strong communication skills for effectively presenting complex technical issues to diverse audiences.
