Overview
We are looking for a Senior Python Developer with expertise in either Java or Rust to join our remote team on a 12-month contract. The primary focus of this role is to build and enhance backend services, modernize the engineering ecosystem, and migrate legacy components into current architectures. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, the contractor will take ownership of complex engineering initiatives and deliver high-quality solutions.
Responsibilities
- Build and enhance backend services to optimize operational costs through automation.
- Develop scalable services and APIs in Python, with contributions in Rust or Java.
- Lead the migration of legacy Ruby on Rails components to modern service-oriented architectures.
- Design and maintain distributed systems, following engineering best practices.
- Produce clean, well-tested, maintainable code and participate in code reviews.
- Implement and maintain RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and third-party integrations.
- Create architecture documentation, API specifications, and deployment documentation.
- Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to deliver solutions effectively.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience in Python development, ideally with Django or FastAPI.
- Proficiency in either Java or Rust, with a demonstrated ability to adapt to new languages.
- Experience designing scalable backend services and distributed systems.
- Strong skills in RESTful APIs and GraphQL development and consumption.
- Knowledge of PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Redis with a focus on database optimization.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure.
- Understanding of testing, observability, and performance optimization methodologies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
