Overview
We are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer (Contract) who will play a vital role in modernizing the platform of a fast-scaling, globally distributed tech organization. The contractor will focus on developing scalable backend services primarily in Rust and Java while also building frontend applications using React and Python, all within a collaborative, product-focused engineering team. This fully remote position offers an exciting opportunity to tackle complex technical challenges and influence architectural decisions in an evolving tech landscape.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable systems with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain modern customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design to production delivery.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and platform teams to deliver impactful functionality.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Apply best practices around performance, reliability, and security in development.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack/Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering experience in Rust and/or Java with commercial exposure to both.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming and distributed systems.
- Experience developing modern frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python for backend services or application development.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and cloud-native development.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools in the engineering workflow.
- Experience making architectural decisions or providing technical leadership at Staff Engineer level.
