Associate Practitioner

Overview

The Associate Practitioner will play a key role in supporting the delivery of NHS Histology insourcing services, working in partnership with histopathology departments to enhance in-house capabilities. The contractor will contribute to operational tasks such as biopsy loading, specimen preparation, and quality assurance, collaborating closely with a dedicated team to improve laboratory productivity and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of routine Histology services.
  • Participate in biopsy loading activities.
  • Deliver embedding, microtomy, and harvesting activities.
  • Support staining and slide preparation workflows.
  • Aid in quality assurance and laboratory workflow objectives.
  • Contribute towards productivity and turnaround time performance.

Requirements

  • Recent Histopathology experience.
  • Independent competency in embedding and microtomy.
  • Experience supporting routine Histology production workflows.
  • Experience working within UKAS-accredited laboratories is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of Histology laboratory workflows.
