Data Migration Engineer

Overview

The Data Migration Engineer will lead a critical short-term project focused on migrating an organization’s extensive database of contracts into a new internal contract hub. This role requires collaboration with various data sources to extract, cleanse, and map contract data, ensuring accuracy and compliance with defined metadata schemas. The contractor will work remotely and will focus on data quality enhancements while creating a reliable and consolidated dataset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct source discovery and profiling to assess data quality and inventory all source systems.
  • Write and execute scripts for bulk data extraction from multiple platforms.
  • Cleanse and de-duplicate data to create a single staging dataset.
  • Build and populate a metadata register by mapping core fields of the contracts.
  • Run sample migrations to validate mapping logic before full-scale execution.
  • Execute the full-scale bulk migration into the new repository structure.
  • Document the data lineage and produce handover notes detailing the migration process.
  • Ensure data handling practices maintain confidentiality and security standards.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with SQL and a scripting language such as Python for data extraction.
  • Proven skills in data profiling, cleansing, and de-duplication across various data sources.
  • Ability to reconcile structured and unstructured data in a clean, unified dataset.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and traceability.
  • Judgment skills for identifying when to escalate issues related to data discrepancies.
  • Experience in managing confidential or commercially sensitive information professionally.
