Overview
The role of a Mobile Architect involves leading the architectural reconstruction of large existing mobile systems in a hybrid work environment. The contractor will work closely with stakeholders, including CTO-level executives, to define architecture characteristics, assess system quality, and ensure robust mobile-to-backend integration. They will leverage their expertise in iOS and Android technologies to guide the architectural direction of the projects, managing complexities that arise in a mixed technology landscape.
Responsibilities
- Reconstruct architecture of large existing mobile systems using code, interviews, and artifacts.
- Define architecture characteristics and assess systems against them.
- Utilize documentation-as-code tooling and diagramming tools for clarity and collaboration.
- Engage with executive stakeholders to present findings and elicit valuable information.
- Analyze and validate integration patterns between mobile apps and backend services.
- Identify architectural patterns utilized in large production apps and provide actionable insights.
- Manage modularization at scale using relevant tools and frameworks.
- Produce early drafts of architectural documentation for discussion and refinement.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in mobile architecture, particularly with iOS, Swift, UIKit, and SwiftUI.
- Demonstrable fluency in structured modelling approaches like C4, arc42, and UML.
- Hands-on knowledge of architectural patterns such as MVVM, VIPER, TCA.
- Familiarity with mobile-to-backend integration patterns including REST and GraphQL.
- Understanding of identity and authorization frameworks such as OAuth 2.0 and Open Banking concepts.
- Strong stakeholder management skills, particularly with executive-level discussions.
- Ability to produce clear written documentation suitable for diverse audiences.
- Experience in regulated environments, preferably within a UK or EU retail bank.
