Overview
The role of Interim Software Engineering Manager focuses on leading the technical direction and evolution of a complex software platform within a technology-driven engineering organization. This temporary position requires a senior leader capable of working closely with multiple stakeholders to align software architecture, assess existing systems, and identify strategic opportunities for improvement. The contractor will provide guidance to engineering teams while remaining actively involved in design and code reviews.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical direction of the software platform.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to align software architecture and delivery priorities.
- Assess and enhance existing systems regarding scalability and security.
- Shape strategic opportunities in cloud, SaaS, and AI.
- Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership to the engineering team.
- Strengthen development standards and technical decision-making processes.
- Conduct design and code reviews, contributing hands-on where necessary.
- Influence cross-functional teams across software and systems engineering.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software architecture and system design.
- Demonstrated ability to assess and improve complex production systems.
- Hands-on experience as a software engineer, preferably with C# or Python.
- Experience leading and mentoring software engineering teams.
- Practical understanding of secure software development principles.
- Ability to develop technology roadmaps and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Knowledge of cloud platforms and SaaS products is preferred.
- Familiarity with AI strategy and applications is a plus.
