Overview
The role of Product Engineer focuses on developing backend services for a commercial platform within a highly regulated and data-intensive industry. The contractor will work closely with a product-focused engineering team to design and build functionalities related to billing, pricing, and settlements, leveraging tools such as Python, TypeScript, and AWS. This position offers the opportunity for significant ownership and input into the technical direction of the platform, contributing to scalable solutions that process high volumes of transactional data.
Responsibilities
- Design and own backend services in Python.
- Build scalable billing, pricing, and commercial platform functionalities.
- Develop APIs and workflows for processing high volumes of transactional data.
- Model complex business rules and financial calculations.
- Collaborate with Product to design solutions from first principles.
- Contribute across the stack as appropriate using TypeScript.
- Improve reliability, scalability, and engineering standards as the platform evolves.
Requirements
- 5+ years of commercial software engineering experience.
- Strong production-grade Python skills.
- Experience building billing, settlement, pricing, or payments platforms.
- Familiarity with the Energy sector or related fields is desirable.
- Ability to work with data-heavy systems and complex business logic.
- Strong product mindset with a high level of ownership.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience in startup or scale-up environments is advantageous.
