Senior Network Engineer

Overview

The Senior Network Engineer will lead the management and optimization of the corporate network infrastructure, focusing on switching, routing, firewalls, and VPN. This hands-on role requires a network-first approach and the ability to implement changes across diverse networking environments while ensuring robustness and security. Working predominantly onsite in Manchester, the contractor will deal with complex networking issues and collaborate closely with teams to maintain and improve network performance across multiple sites.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee end-to-end management of the corporate network, including switching and routing.
  • Implement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and ensure inter-site connectivity.
  • Make routine network changes and configurations with a focus on security and efficiency.
  • Design and secure multi-site network solutions for high data transfer volumes.
  • Utilize network automation tools and infrastructure-as-code for improved operational efficiency.
  • Respond calmly and methodically to outages, applying root-cause analysis to resolve issues.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network reliability and performance.

Requirements

  • Expert-level skills in network engineering, focusing on enterprise switching, routing, and protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
  • Proficient with firewalls from vendors like Palo Alto, Fortinet, and ideally, experience with wireless and VPN solutions.
  • Experience in designing and securing multi-site networks.
  • Strong grounding in configuring and managing Windows, Azure, or similar systems.
  • Familiarity with network automation tools like Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
  • Ability to work independently in a dynamic, low-documentation environment.
  • Experience in creative technology settings (games, VFX, animation) is a plus.
