Overview
The Staff Full Stack Engineer will join a fast-scaling tech business focused on modernizing its platform and improving user experiences. In this fully remote contract role, the Engineer will work collaboratively within a product-focused team to design and optimize scalable backend services primarily using Rust and Java, while also developing customer-facing applications with React and Python. This position is ideal for a contractor who thrives on tackling complex challenges and influencing architectural direction within a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance systems with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
- Develop and maintain modern customer-facing applications with React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Take ownership of features from architectural design to production delivery.
- Collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to enhance customer functionality.
- Influence technical direction, engineering standards, and architectural decisions.
- Apply best practices for performance, reliability, testing, and security.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack / Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering expertise in Rust and/or Java.
- Experience developing modern frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python, including backend services and APIs.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and cloud-native development.
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools.
- Ability to onboard quickly and deliver value efficiently.
