Overview
The role of Staff Full Stack Engineer (Contract) involves contributing to the evolution of a fast-scaling, globally distributed tech company's platform by designing and developing both backend and frontend systems. This fully remote position calls for a contractor with extensive experience in Rust and Java, as well as proficiency in React and Python, to create scalable, reliable software solutions while collaborating with an accomplished engineering team dedicated to impactful product development.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable systems focused on maintainability and clean architecture.
- Develop and maintain modern customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design to production delivery.
- Collaborate closely with product, design, and platform teams to deliver impactful functionality.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Apply best practices for performance, reliability, testing, and security within development processes.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack/Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering skills in Rust and/or Java, ideally with exposure to both.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming and distributed systems.
- Experience developing modern frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python in backend services or API development.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and cloud-native development.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools effectively.
- Experience in making architectural decisions or providing technical leadership is preferred.
