User Researcher

Overview

As a User Researcher on a 6-month contract, you will play a vital role in a major digital transformation programme for a UK Government Agency, working remotely. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that services are designed around user needs, leveraging evidence obtained through user research to influence service design and delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the User Research Plan, selecting appropriate research methods and ensuring accessibility and inclusivity.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to identify and recruit participants from various user groups.
  • Plan, facilitate, and analyze user interviews, workshops, contextual inquiries, and other qualitative research activities.
  • Produce clear, evidence-based findings that outline user needs, behaviors, pain points, and personas.
  • Validate user journeys, service maps, and operational processes.
  • Translate complex research findings into actionable recommendations for product and service decisions.
  • Present research findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the Discovery Report and future delivery planning, championing user-centered design principles throughout the Discovery lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Proven experience delivering User Research within GDS Discovery phases or similar complex digital transformation programmes.
  • Strong qualitative research skills, including user interviews, workshops, and observational research.
  • Experience working with complex operational services involving multiple user groups and stakeholders.
  • Ability to synthesize research into user needs, personas, and actionable recommendations.
  • Good understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive research practices.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary Agile teams in government or highly regulated sectors.
  • Familiarity with service design activities and evidence-led service design within the UK Government context.
