Automotive Software Architect

Overview

In this contract position, the Software Tools & Architecture Engineer will play a pivotal role in enhancing the software development ecosystem for automotive applications, particularly focused on electric drive systems. The contractor will work closely with cross-functional teams to define and implement scalable software architectures while ensuring alignment with ASPICE principles and integrating automated testing frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Define, document, and maintain the end-to-end software architecture across embedded platforms, OS layers, middleware, applications, and verification environments.
  • Design, configure, and maintain a unified automated development environment, including build systems and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Specify and integrate core engineering tools across the software lifecycle, connecting MATLAB/Simulink with automated code generation and testing tools.
  • Support the definition and rollout of software engineering processes aligned with ASPICE levels and functional safety requirements.
  • Implement automated defect detection and testing frameworks to catch defects early in the software development process.
  • Establish quality metrics and feedback loops to monitor build stability, code coverage, and process compliance.
  • Collaborate with embedded software, controls, systems engineering, and validation teams to ensure tool compatibility and architectural consistency.
  • Ensure release readiness through end-to-end requirements traceability and automated release generation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in defining scalable, maintainable real-time embedded software architectures for automotive applications.
  • Hands-on experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Stateflow, and automated code generation workflows.
  • Demonstrable experience with building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines for embedded systems using tools like Jenkins or GitLab CI.
  • Strong understanding of ASPICE process capability models and ISO 26262 functional safety requirements.
  • Experience with integrating MIL, SIL, PIL, and HIL testing environments into continuous integration.
  • Proficient in using static/dynamic analysis tools, version control systems (Git), and issue tracking tools (Jira).
