Overview
We are seeking an experienced Back-End Developer to contribute to a major digital transformation programme within the public sector. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with engineers, architects, and stakeholders, primarily focusing on designing and implementing Java-based backend services and enhancing microservices in a hybrid working arrangement, predominantly operating remotely with some presence required in Glasgow. This contract offers significant extension potential and requires strong experience in Java and related technologies.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based backend services and applications.
- Build and enhance Spring Boot microservices within a cloud-native environment.
- Design and implement RESTful APIs and service integrations.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with architects, delivery teams, and stakeholders throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Support containerized deployments using Docker and cloud-based tooling.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning and retrospectives.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience with Java 8+.
- Experience using Spring Framework and Spring Boot.
- Proficiency in designing and developing RESTful microservices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and build tools such as Jenkins and Maven.
- Knowledge of AWS cloud services and Docker containerization.
- Familiarity with software engineering best practices including Clean Code and SOLID principles.
- Experience with unit and integration testing methodologies.
- Ability to mentor and support other engineers.
