Enterprise Architect

Overview

The Enterprise Architect will play a pivotal role in guiding technology architecture for a leading UK grocery retailer’s customer-facing digital platforms, including Grocery Home Shopping and eCommerce solutions. This contract position requires a seasoned professional to define technology strategies, lead transformation initiatives, and collaborate with both business and technology stakeholders to enhance digital commerce capabilities. The role also involves significant leadership in architecture governance during a critical retail transformation program, including a strategic migration to a new online grocery fulfillment platform.

Responsibilities

  • Define and own the technology strategy and architecture roadmap for eCommerce and Customer platforms.
  • Provide architectural leadership for the Grocery Home Shopping transformation and platform migration.
  • Develop target-state, transition and integration architectures to support business growth.
  • Govern technology decisions, architecture standards, and solution designs across the domain.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to shape investment priorities.
  • Promote API-led, event-driven, and cloud-native architectural patterns.
  • Drive simplification of the technology estate and reduce technical debt.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on digital commerce and customer technology strategy.

Requirements

  • Significant Enterprise Architecture experience within digital, customer or eCommerce domains.
  • Strong knowledge of online retail, customer experience, and digital commerce platforms.
  • Experience leading complex transformation programmes and large technology roadmaps.
  • Expertise in architecture governance, operating models, technology strategy, and roadmaps.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence at the executive level.
  • Experience designing highly resilient, scalable, and integrated platforms.
  • Broad knowledge of cloud technologies, integration patterns, data platforms, and modern engineering practices.
  • Desirable experience in grocery eCommerce or omnichannel retail, large-scale platform migration, and knowledge of customer identity, loyalty, personalization, and digital marketing ecosystems.
