Overview
We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading main contractor for a 2-year freelance contract, with the potential for extension. This role is ideal for a commercially astute professional who will manage complex, high-value construction projects, support junior staff, and engage with senior management to drive project success.
Responsibilities
- Take full commercial ownership of one or more major construction projects.
- Lead and mentor junior commercial staff, including Quantity Surveyors and Assistant Quantity Surveyors.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, appointment, and account management end-to-end.
- Produce and present detailed cost reports, forecasts, and CVRs to senior management.
- Drive change management and variation processes to maximize commercial recovery.
- Negotiate and settle final accounts with subcontractors and clients.
- Support bid and tender activities as required.
- Maintain contractual awareness and advise the project team on commercial risks and opportunities.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a main contracting environment, with strong senior-level exposure.
- Demonstrable ability to manage complex projects and large subcontractor packages.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- MRICS qualification preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of JCT, NEC, or other standard forms of contract.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to identify and protect project margins.
- Confident communicator capable of engaging with clients and senior management.
- Must be able to operate via a limited company (Ltd) and work outside IR35.
