Overview
This role involves leading the back-end architecture for a critical, multi-year programme to replace a legacy system that has been in operation for over twenty years. The contractor will prioritize building a new, event-driven codebase and facilitate the migration of operational knowledge from domain experts into this new structure. Collaboration with non-engineers will be essential to ensure that critical domain knowledge is effectively captured during the transition process.
Responsibilities
- Own the back-end architecture for the new system.
- Implement an event-driven codebase using Kotlin, Spring Boot, and PostgreSQL.
- Lead the incremental migration of the legacy system to the new architecture.
- Collaborate closely with domain experts to gather and capture operational knowledge.
- Establish standards for back-end development that ensure system reliability and performance.
- Coordinate the ongoing operation of both the old and new systems during the migration.
Requirements
- Significant experience in back-end architecture, specifically with Kotlin or Java.
- Proven ability to execute incremental migrations of live systems without data loss.
- Familiarity with domain-driven and event-driven design patterns.
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience working in a greenfield project environment.
