Overview
We are looking for an experienced Python Developer with expertise in Django and either Java or Rust to join our team on a fully remote 12-month contract. In this hands-on role, you will help build and enhance backend services, modernize our engineering practices, and decommission legacy systems, working closely with various stakeholders to ensure high-quality deliverables. Your primary focus will be to develop scalable, high-performance backend systems that streamline operations and improve overall system architecture.
Responsibilities
- Build and enhance backend services to reduce operational costs through automation and optimization.
- Develop scalable Python-based services and APIs supporting candidate acquisition, onboarding, and compliance workflows.
- Design, build, and maintain distributed systems using Python, with contributions in Java or Rust as needed.
- Lead the migration of legacy Ruby on Rails functionality to modern service-oriented architectures.
- Produce clean, well-tested code and participate in code reviews to uphold engineering standards.
- Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and GraphQL services, and integrate with third-party platforms.
- Implement monitoring and observability practices to enhance platform reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and cross-functional teams to deliver quality solutions.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience in Python development, ideally with Django or FastAPI.
- Advanced development experience in Java or Rust (one or both required).
- Proven ability to work with multiple programming languages and quickly adapt to new codebases.
- Experience designing and building scalable backend services and distributed systems.
- Strong knowledge of RESTful APIs and GraphQL design and consumption.
- Familiarity with PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, and database optimization techniques.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud infrastructure practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a must.
