Overview
In this role as a Senior Data Architect, you will take the lead in developing a comprehensive insurance ontology that streamlines data management across various products and services within the insurance sector. Collaborating closely with subject matter experts and data engineering teams, you will ensure a cohesive understanding of insurance concepts, utilizing your technical expertise in ontology engineering. This is a hands-on position focused on creating and governing robust machine-readable definitions that enhance AI applications and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design and extend the insurance ontology across various lines of business.
- Drive vocabulary governance by establishing naming conventions and policies.
- Translate SME knowledge into formal axioms and document definitions.
- Map source data schemas to ontology terms, providing clear rationale.
- Collaborate with data engineering and AI teams to ensure ontology usability.
- Maintain provenance and audit trails for all ontology changes.
- Run validation gates before each ontology release to ensure quality and consistency.
- Contribute to tooling improvements for the ontology software development lifecycle.
Requirements
- 4+ years of hands-on experience in ontology engineering using OWL 2, RDF, RDFS, and SPARQL.
- Proficiency in serialization formats such as JSON-LD, Turtle, or RDF/XML.
- Experience mapping source data schemas to ontology terms.
- Familiarity with upper or mid-level ontologies like gist, FIBO, BFO, PROV-O.
- Ability to articulate complex ontology decisions in clear business language.
- Strong written communication skills for effective documentation.
- Knowledge of the insurance domain and relevant data standards is preferred.
- Experience with ontology validation techniques such as SHACL and provenance capture patterns.
