Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will play a critical role within an established engineering design consultancy in the UK water industry, focusing on delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions. This position entails collaboration with various teams, oversight of design processes, and mentorship of junior staff, with the option for hybrid work arrangements subject to agreement.
Responsibilities
- Deliver mechanical design solutions that meet safety, quality, and project requirements.
- Produce mechanical design calculations, specifications, and drawings for water industry projects.
- Lead and mentor CAD technicians in best practices and project requirements.
- Prepare scopes of work for subcontracted M&E design teams and review their deliverables.
- Liaise with equipment suppliers, prepare technical specifications, and evaluate tender submissions.
- Produce design reports, investigations, and technical specifications as required.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and company procedures.
- Manage and document design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- 5–10 years' mechanical design experience within the UK water industry.
- Degree, HND, or equivalent engineering qualification, or significant technician-level experience.
- Strong IT skills relevant to mechanical design and engineering software.
- Membership of a relevant professional engineering institution.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
- Good understanding of UK water industry design standards and practices.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status is desirable.
- Knowledge of hydraulic design and experience across both clean water and wastewater projects.
