Overview
We are seeking an experienced Staff Full Stack Engineer on a contract basis to support a fast-scaling global tech business. This fully remote role focuses on enhancing backend services and customer-facing applications primarily using Rust and Java, with a secondary emphasis on React and Python. The contractor will collaborate with product, design, and platform teams to drive impactful engineering solutions, ultimately shaping the architectural future of the platform.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance, reliable systems focusing on scalability, maintainability, and clean architecture.
- Develop and maintain modern customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to backend services, APIs, and integrations using Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design through to production delivery.
- Work closely with product, design, and platform teams to deliver impactful functionality.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Apply best practices around performance, reliability, testing, and security.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Senior or Staff-level Full Stack / Backend Engineer.
- Strong backend engineering experience with Rust and Java, ideally with exposure to both.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming and distributed systems.
- Commercial experience developing frontend applications using React.
- Hands-on experience with Python for backend services and APIs.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and scalable architecture.
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools.
