Overview
We are seeking a Staff Full Stack Engineer on a contract basis to contribute to the evolution of a globally distributed tech platform, focusing on modernising backend services and enhancing frontend experiences. The ideal candidate will have significant commercial experience in Rust and Java, with additional skills in React and Python, playing a vital role in building scalable systems and influencing architectural decisions within an experienced engineering team. This contract position offers flexibility, allowing for a fully remote working arrangement.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable backend services using Rust and Java.
- Build high-performance customer-facing applications using React.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of backend APIs and services with Python.
- Take ownership of complex features from architectural design through to production delivery.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver impactful functionality.
- Influence technical direction and engineering standards across the platform.
- Apply best practices in performance, reliability, and security.
- Utilise AI-assisted development tools for enhanced coding and debugging.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience as a Full Stack or Backend Engineer in production environments.
- Strong backend engineering skills in Rust and/or Java, with practical experience in both preferred.
- Solid understanding of concurrent programming and distributed systems.
- Commercial experience with modern frontend technologies, particularly React.
- Hands-on experience with Python for backend services and APIs.
- Strong knowledge of REST APIs, microservices, and scalable architecture.
- Experience designing and maintaining production-grade systems.
- Contractor mindset with the ability to quickly onboard and deliver value effectively.
