Overview
The Azure Data Architect will lead the design and implementation of a greenfield data platform using Azure technologies, ensuring scalability for national operations. This role involves working collaboratively with various teams to establish best practices and recommendations for the technology stack, focused primarily on Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. The position requires immediate engagement and offers a flexible working arrangement with occasional attendance in London.
Responsibilities
- Own the target data architecture, from conceptual through logical to physical design.
- Lead the tech stack recommendation and supporting rationale.
- Produce data models and integration patterns for national scale volumes.
- Present and defend best practices to build client capabilities.
- Collaborate with enterprise architects and data governance specialists.
- Engage in hands-on support to resolve delivery challenges.
Requirements
- Proven experience in enterprise scale data platform architecture for greenfield or major replatform projects.
- Expertise in conceptual, logical, and physical data modeling, including dimensional and data vault methodologies.
- Experience with lakehouse and medallion patterns, batch and streaming ingestion, and event-driven design.
- Architectural level knowledge of Databricks and/or Microsoft Fabric.
- Proficient in Azure Data Factory, Synapse, Azure SQL, and Data Lake Storage Gen2.
- Advanced skills in SQL, Python or PySpark, Spark optimization, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Terraform, or Bicep.
- Knowledge of UK GDPR and DPA 2018 compliance.
