Overview
The Civil Design Engineer will be an integral part of a growing engineering consultancy's Civil Design team, contributing to the delivery of major clean water and wastewater projects across the UK. This role offers various levels of responsibility, from designing engineering solutions to leading a discipline, collaborating closely with Project Managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams. The ideal candidate will support the technical delivery and quality assurance of projects while mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvement in engineering practice.
Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality civil engineering designs that meet safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare engineering calculations, drawings, reports, specifications, and Design Risk Assessments (DRAs).
- Conduct hydraulic calculations and prepare hydraulic profiles.
- Deliver designs in compliance with industry standards and water company specifications.
- Develop practical engineering solutions based on client requirements and site investigations.
- Manage design changes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Participate in project planning and resource forecasting.
- Mentor Graduate Engineers, Engineers, and CAD Technicians.
Requirements
- 5+ years' experience in civil engineering design within the regulated water sector.
- Experience in clean water and/or wastewater projects.
- Strong understanding of engineering design principles and industry standards.
- Knowledge of hydraulic calculations and engineering drawing practices.
- Degree, HND, or equivalent engineering qualification.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution and working towards Chartership.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (for Principal Engineer level).
- 10+ years experience in civil engineering design for more senior roles, including leadership experience.
