Overview
As a Consultant Pediatrician specializing in autism assessment services, you will join a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for children aged 3-5 with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This locum role focuses on delivering high-quality assessments and providing compassionate support to families, ensuring that each assessment experience is respectful and thorough. You will collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals, utilizing your expertise to diagnose and offer recommendations tailored to each child’s needs.
Responsibilities
- Conduct face-to-face ASD assessments for children and young people.
- Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT).
- Observe children during MDT assessment sessions and ask questions in a sensitive manner.
- Review ADOS reports, developmental histories, and relevant information for assessments.
- Formulate appropriate diagnoses in line with DSM-5 criteria.
- Provide clear and compassionate feedback to families after assessments.
- Produce detailed diagnostic reports within 48 hours of assessments using established templates.
- Make onward referrals according to relevant NHS Trust/ICB pathways and protocols.
Requirements
- GMC registration with a valid licence to practise.
- Consultant status with CCT and inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register.
- Experience conducting ASD assessments for children and young people.
- Experience in a multidisciplinary assessment environment.
- Strong knowledge of DSM-5 diagnostic criteria.
- Up-to-date appraisal and revalidation.
- Excellent communication and report-writing skills.
- Child-centred and family-focused approach with a commitment to high clinical standards.
