Overview
We are seeking a skilled DevOps Engineer to join our team on a 12-month remote contract focused on managing and optimizing a Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) platform for a customer. The successful candidate will collaborate with the customer’s platform team, utilizing their expertise in Google Cloud and GitOps to ensure efficient operation, monitoring, and scalability of the system. This role involves taking ownership of monitoring tools, security compliance, and providing technical guidance during service reviews.
Responsibilities
- Run, monitor, and upgrade in-cluster tooling while deploying workloads using GitOps (FluxCD).
- Troubleshoot deployment and platform issues, escalating infrastructure problems as needed.
- Scale and right-size workloads (CPU/memory, HPA) and set up namespaces and environments.
- Manage Datadog, including auditing monitors and dashboards, and setting up alert routing.
- Address High and Critical security vulnerabilities within 14 days and review findings from the Security Command Center.
- Maintain the base image repository, ensuring compliance with a timestamped audit trail.
- Create runbooks and escalation paths to support on-call readiness.
- Serve as a technical sounding board for the customer’s platform team and participate in service reviews.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of production experience with Kubernetes, specifically GKE.
- Proficient in Google Cloud Platform and GitOps using FluxCD (or Argo CD) along with Helm/Kustomize.
- Hands-on experience with Datadog, including setting up monitors, dashboards, and alert tuning.
- Knowledge of container security and CVE remediation practices.
- Experience with scripting in Bash and/or Python.
- Ability to produce clear runbooks and documentation.
- Strong skills in collaborating with clients and third-party suppliers.
