Overview
As a Forward Deployed AI Engineer, you will collaborate with portfolio companies within a private equity firm to identify and implement AI solutions that drive commercial value. Working directly with CEOs and leadership teams, you'll blend consulting expertise with hands-on engineering, translating business challenges into technical requirements and deploying AI applications effectively. This role involves traveling to various business sites, fostering an understanding of each company’s unique operational landscape and providing tailored AI-driven solutions.
Responsibilities
- Engage directly with CEOs, boards, and operational leaders to understand business needs.
- Identify bottlenecks and opportunities for AI or automation within the companies.
- Translate business problems into clear technical requirements for AI solutions.
- Prioritize use cases based on commercial value, feasibility, and risk assessment.
- Design, build, and deploy scalable production AI applications.
- Integrate AI solutions with existing business systems, APIs, and platforms.
- Support user testing and manage the training and adoption process.
- Document implementations to ensure maintainability and knowledge transfer.
Requirements
- Minimum 8 years of experience in AI, machine learning, or software engineering.
- Proven experience delivering production AI applications, especially in SMEs or scale-ups with revenues of £5m-£50m.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience with software engineering practices.
- Experience in consulting roles with direct engagement at the executive level, including working with private equity stakeholders.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG solutions, and AI-driven automation workflows.
- Familiarity with cloud deployment and application monitoring best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and adapt to varying technical environments.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
