Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a crucial role in a fast-paced engineering team focused on electric vehicle (EV) development. This position involves taking ownership of mechanical design work packages for battery packs, collaborating with various engineering disciplines to deliver innovative solutions from conceptualization through to manufacturing. The contractor will be working in a hybrid arrangement, combining remote and on-site efforts to meet project deadlines effectively.
Responsibilities
- Own and lead delivery of mechanical battery pack design work packages.
- Gather, interpret and break down requirements into detailed designs.
- Develop high-quality CATIA models and manufacturing drawings.
- Collaborate closely with CAE, electrical, thermal, and other engineering teams.
- Manage technical interfaces, risks, timing, and design changes throughout delivery.
- Apply strong GD&T and tolerancing principles to released designs.
- Take designs from concept through to manufacturing and release.
Requirements
- Strong mechanical design and CAD experience, particularly with battery packs or in automotive environments.
- Excellent CATIA skills; experience with 3DEXPERIENCE or 3DX is a bonus.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T and tolerancing principles.
- Experience in producing designs suitable for manufacturing and release.
- Proven ability to manage a technical solution or work package end-to-end.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interface with multidisciplinary teams.
- Proactive, delivery-focused mindset with decision-making capabilities.
- Battery-pack experience is highly desirable; strong experience in automotive, aerospace, or composites will be considered.
