Overview
We are seeking a Senior Java / Kotlin Developer to lead the back-end architecture for a critical, multi-year replacement program of a legacy system that has been operational for over twenty years. The contractor will be responsible for designing an event-driven codebase while collaborating closely with domain experts to migrate operational knowledge without disrupting production. This remote position offers opportunities to make impactful contributions from day one, while working on a greenfield project.
Responsibilities
- Own the back-end architecture for the new system using Kotlin and Java.
- Lead the incremental migration of the legacy system ensuring no data loss.
- Collaborate with domain experts to capture and transfer operational knowledge into the new codebase.
- Implement standards and best practices for event-driven architectures.
- Manage the integration of PostgreSQL and Spring Boot into the new system.
- Coordinate with non-engineers to facilitate knowledge sharing and system understanding.
- Support ongoing development and troubleshooting as needed throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in back-end development using Kotlin or Java.
- Proven track record of leading architecture design in software projects.
- Experience with incremental migration of live production systems.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architectural patterns.
- Proficiency with PostgreSQL and Spring Boot.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with domain-driven design principles.
