Overview
We are seeking a Principal Java Engineer with strong retail experience for a six-month contract role. The engineer will work closely with product owners, engineering leads, and various stakeholders while focusing on hands-on software development, cloud-native system management, and team mentoring. The position requires a blend of technical leadership and collaboration to influence product and business decisions while maintaining a focus on secure and efficient coding practices.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical deep dives and knowledge sharing within teams.
- Influence product and business decisions through technical expertise.
- Write high-quality Java code, leveraging frameworks like Spring Boot or Micronaut.
- Develop and maintain integrations with payment systems and fraud detection tools.
- Build and support cloud-native systems on Azure using Terraform and Kubernetes.
- Manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions for smooth production delivery.
- Champion security practices and compliance across services.
- Mentor engineers of all levels to drive technical excellence and establish best practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Principal Java Engineer in backend-focused environments.
- Strong experience in Java 17+, with experience in Spring Boot or Micronaut; willingness to learn Kotlin is appreciated.
- Hands-on knowledge of Kafka, event-driven architecture, and microservices.
- Solid understanding of payment systems, including fraud detection and tokenization.
- Experience with Azure and CI/CD processes, including Kubernetes management.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards such as PCI DSS and PSD2.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex technical concepts effectively.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum teams with a DevOps culture and test-driven approach.
