Overview
The role of Interim Software Engineering Manager is a six-month contract position focused on providing strong technical direction and leadership for a growing software capability within a technology-led engineering organization. The successful contractor will collaborate closely with senior leaders, assess and improve existing systems, and guide an established engineering team in developing a practical software roadmap that supports long-term business objectives.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical direction and evolution of a complex software platform.
- Collaborate with senior leaders to align software architecture and delivery priorities with business objectives.
- Assess existing systems to identify opportunities for enhanced scalability, security, reliability, and maintainability.
- Provide architectural guidance and technical leadership to the engineering team.
- Conduct design and code reviews while contributing hands-on when necessary.
- Strengthen development standards, governance, and technical decision-making processes.
- Influence cross-functional teams in achieving software, systems engineering, and product development goals.
- Shape strategic opportunities within cloud, SaaS, digital products, and AI.
Requirements
- Proven experience in software architecture and system design.
- Demonstrated success in assessing and enhancing complex production systems.
- Ability to balance scalability, security, performance, cost, and delivery.
- Hands-on experience as a software engineer with strong technical credibility.
- Experience in leading, mentoring, or providing direction to software engineering teams.
- Understanding of secure software development and cybersecurity principles.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, SaaS products, or digital transformation.
- Knowledge of AI strategy or evaluating commercially viable AI applications is a plus.
