Overview
The contract Data Engineer will play a key role in migrating a client-facing analytics platform from Snowflake to Microsoft Fabric. Working in a hybrid arrangement, this position requires direct engagement in designing the migration approach, schema mapping, and providing guidance to junior engineers while ensuring efficient project execution. The contractor will contribute significantly during the initial scoping phase and will be expected to take ownership of technical decisions throughout the project.
Responsibilities
- Conduct a scoping phase to assess the project requirements and complexities.
- Develop and own the migration strategy, including schema mapping and cutover planning.
- Implement solutions utilizing Fabric's Lakehouse/OneLake architecture.
- Manage custom API-based data ingestion for integration needs.
- Make architectural decisions independently and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
- Collaborate closely with team members to identify and address migration challenges.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in managing data migrations, specifically from Snowflake to Microsoft Fabric.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Fabric, with practical, hands-on experience.
- Strong understanding of data ingestion methods, including custom API integrations.
- Ability to independently make architectural decisions and own project outcomes.
- Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers within a technical team environment.
- Familiarity with migration methodologies and strategies applicable to data architecture.
