Enterprise Data Architect

Overview

The Enterprise Data Architect will operate within a public sector organisation to develop and implement enterprise data strategies, ensuring effective data architecture and analytics capabilities. Working closely with the Data & Analytics Manager, the contractor will mentor existing staff and provide expert advice to senior leadership and operational teams. This role is part-time, requiring three days of work per week, with two days remote and one day on-site in Dumfries.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain technical documentation and decision records to support future development.
  • Provide progress, risk, and decision reporting to senior leadership and governance groups.
  • Collaborate with the Data & Analytics Manager to establish delivery plans and allocate activities.
  • Coach and mentor staff, enhancing their knowledge in modern data architecture and engineering.
  • Act as a senior subject-matter expert, advising on data strategies to leadership and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Significant experience in developing and implementing enterprise data strategies in large organisations.
  • Experience in designing and implementing cloud data platforms or data warehouses.
  • Practical experience with Snowflake or comparable enterprise cloud data platforms.
  • Experience in transforming fragmented data architectures to enterprise-level solutions.
  • Strong knowledge in data architecture, engineering, governance, and quality management.
  • Experience in managing technology and data suppliers effectively.
  • Understanding of information governance, security, and privacy issues regarding sensitive data.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders and leadership.
