Overview
The Lead .NET Engineer will assume a senior technical leadership role within a digital IT consultancy, overseeing a skilled engineering team dedicated to enhancing the reliability and performance of a high-volume messaging platform. The contractor will ensure technical delivery through hands-on engineering, architecture, and design while guiding team members in overcoming complex challenges. This fully remote position is ideal for an experienced engineer seeking to maintain a close relationship with coding while influencing the broader technical strategy of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the technical direction for the engineering team.
- Make key architectural and design decisions across the messaging platform.
- Allocate work and assist engineers in prioritizing delivery effectively.
- Provide guidance to developers on complex technical challenges and remove blockers.
- Spend approximately 50% of your time on architecture, design, and code review while staying hands-on as needed.
- Review and challenge internal and third-party .NET code to uphold high engineering standards.
- Enhance automated testing and develop robust test harnesses, mocks, and stubs.
- Strengthen monitoring, observability, and reliability across the messaging pipeline.
Requirements
- Strong and current .NET engineering experience.
- Proven experience operating as a technical authority within an engineering team.
- Strong architecture and solution-design skills.
- Excellent code-review capabilities with the ability to challenge technical decisions.
- Experience in Domain-Driven Design (DDD).
- Strong knowledge of automated testing practices and software quality assurance.
- Familiarity with test harnesses, mocks, stubs, and end-to-end validation.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve complex technical issues confidently.
