Network Consultant

Overview

The Network Consultant will play a critical role in an ongoing project migrating from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace, focusing specifically on ensuring the network and firewall infrastructure is effectively managed and documented. Working closely with the internal Separation team and other stakeholders, the consultant will validate network rules, support mail routing activities, and provide broader network engineering assistance as needed during the migration process.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and configure firewalls to support the migration.
  • Validate existing network and firewall rules against migration requirements, and remediate any gaps or conflicts.
  • Configure identity-related network settings, including conditional access network locations and IP allow-listing.
  • Support mail routing cutover activities, including DNS and MX record changes, and validate mail flow.
  • Conduct network security and compliance reviews.
  • Coordinate with the internal Separation team on overlapping network and firewall changes.
  • Assist with migration testing and resolve connectivity issues during UAT and go-live phases.
  • Document all network and firewall changes for audit and knowledge transfer purposes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in firewall management and network rule validation.
  • Working knowledge of identity integration for cloud platforms, including conditional access and IP allow-listing.
  • Experience with DNS, MX, and mail routing cutover processes.
  • Ability to work independently and focus on outcomes.
  • Experience in complex, multi-stakeholder migration or separation programmes.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with broader networking concepts, including routing, switching, VPN, load balancing, and segmentation.
