Overview
The Interim Head of Infrastructure will serve as a crucial technical escalation point and operational leader within the IT department, ensuring the reliability and security of the organization's IT estate. The role involves leading a small team while collaborating closely with the CTO to manage infrastructure, security, and application-related IT services. The position is geared towards hands-on technical leadership alongside operational effectiveness, with the potential for extension or transition to a permanent role following the initial three-month engagement.
Responsibilities
- Act as the technical escalation point for the infrastructure team regarding complex Windows Server, Active Directory, and hybrid DNS issues.
- Administer and oversee Microsoft 365 / Entra ID across the organization.
- Provide technical guidance and support across both Windows and Linux environments.
- Resolve high-pressure, ambiguous technical challenges in a 3rd-line capacity.
- Ensure the infrastructure and security systems are robust, scalable, and aligned with business requirements.
- Lead and develop the infrastructure and security team, providing necessary support and resources.
- Monitor and communicate the progress of outsourced projects, escalating risks to the CTO as necessary.
- Guide the security engineer's work by applying knowledge of security fundamentals and compliance standards.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in Windows Server, Active Directory, and hybrid DNS troubleshooting.
- Extensive experience in administering Microsoft 365 / Entra ID.
- Ability to work confidently across Windows and Linux environments.
- Hands-on experience with Azure and/or AWS in a project or support capacity.
- Experience in a 3rd-line escalation role, effectively managing high-pressure technical issues.
- Strong understanding of security fundamentals such as patching, vulnerability management concepts, and identity security.
- Familiarity with WAN/network rollouts in multi-site environments and monitoring platforms like Nagios is beneficial but not essential.
