Principal Design Engineer

Overview

The Principal Design Engineer will provide technical leadership for major water and wastewater projects within a prominent Tier 1 contractor. This remote position emphasizes the design and delivery of critical infrastructure, including pipelines and treatment facilities, in alignment with industry standards and client requirements. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to engineer innovative solutions while fostering the development of junior engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary water and wastewater projects.
  • Deliver high-quality engineering solutions in collaboration with Design Managers and Principal Engineers.
  • Act as a technical authority to resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant standards and client specifications.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for integrated project delivery.
  • Support construction and site teams with technical expertise.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering practices.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and designers within the team.

Requirements

  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience in the municipal water and wastewater sector.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards chartership.
  • Working knowledge of water and wastewater assets and treatment processes.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and industry regulations.
  • Experience in quality assurance and health and safety management systems.
  • Proven ability to lead design reviews and technical discussions.
  • Familiarity with NEC contracts and project management practices.
